Very realistic packaging

These fruit juice cartons imitate the look and feel of the fruit they contain. Provocative, popish, and, above all, very realistic.

When you finish the juice, you’ll want to eat the container

Smooth yellow container... banana juice, of course

Velvety and brown... it can only be a kiwi

Look for it in the supermarket if you happen to visit Japan

Surely at some point you’ve had the impulse to buy something just because it looked interesting. A book, a CD, some cereal, or even detergent... And some claim what matters is on the inside. Any fan of cool packaging – and that includes anyone who’s ever committed the sin of buying on aesthetic impulse- would definitely buy these juice boxes that look and feel like the fruit inside as soon as they saw them on the supermarket shelf.

This incredibly popish and provocative packaging was created by Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa. It’s called Juice Skin and it doesn’t just look like a banana, a kiwi, or a strawberry, its texture also imitates these fruits. So, the carton of strawberry juice is red and full of pores, the one for kiwi juice is a velvety brown, and the banana juice carton is smooth and shiny.

We don’t know whether Fukasawa realized this when he was designing them, but they are a great idea for the blind, since they’ll be able to recognize what flavor juice the carton contains just by touching it. At the moment, they’re only sold in Japan but we hope the designer will export his work so that we can enjoy these tempting fruit juices in every part of the world.
